CONSULTING and PLACEMENT
Consulting and Placement of American Mustangs – What You Need to Know!
Every year, the U.S. government agency Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Forest Service gathers wild Mustangs from public lands and transfers them to state holding facilities. The goal is population control. Some of these horses are then made available for adoption or sale.
The placement and import of an American Mustang require experience, professional knowledge, and a realistic evaluation of the individual horse. On this page, you’ll learn what truly matters — from selection and preparation to safe export to Europe.
PREPARATION IS ESSENTIAL
Without careful preparation, it is impossible to transport a wild Mustang to Europe in a low-stress manner — let alone load them safely onto an airplane. That’s why our Mustangs first go through a pre-screening process to determine whether they are ready to form a connection with humans. Only then are they accepted into our training program and specifically prepared for the journey to Europe.
Our work is deliberately carried out without Mustang Makeovers, without competition, and without time pressure. We clearly distance ourselves from show formats and hype-driven approaches that prioritize quick results. Instead, our focus is on stability, trust, and a sustainable foundation for a shared life.
The term “raw” is often used misleadingly in connection with Mustangs. An untrained, wild-born Mustang cannot be imported, as safe loading and air transport are impossible without prior training and habituation.
Mustangs offered in Europe or Germany as “raw” are therefore not untrained, but have already undergone some form of handling or basic training. What truly matters is how this training was conducted. Improper or rushed handling during this sensitive phase can have long-lasting effects on the horse’s behavior, stress regulation, and resilience. This is exactly why we place the greatest value on professionally sound, horse-centered preparation — without time pressure, show elements, or coercion.
ADOPTION OR PURCHASE THROUGH THE BLM OR FORSET SERVICE?
Adoption comes with significant restrictions, including a one-year export ban to Europe, and is therefore not suitable for import.
Update (March 3, 2025): The USD 1,000 adoption incentive has been discontinued.
Purchasing a Mustang through the BLM (Sale Authority, approx. USD 125) generally allows immediate export to Europe, once the horse is travel-ready. However, selection is critical: not every Mustang is suitable for import or for life in Europe.
I strongly advise against selecting a Mustang directly through the BLM website based on independent research alone. Let our Global Training Team help! Only through professional evaluation, experience, and targeted pre-screening can it be determined whether a horse is physically, mentally, and temperamentally suited for this path. In terms of price, it makes no difference — but for the horse and the shared future, it makes an absolutely decisive difference.

WHAT IS A MUSTANG?
A Mustang is a wild-born horse — not a breed, but nature in its purest form.
Its pronounced social behavior is shaped by life in the wild. Genuine Mustangs can be clearly identified by the BLM freeze brand or corresponding U.S. Forest Service documentation.
