Mustang meets European Horse Culture

The First Annual Global Horse Month – May 2027

Global Horse Month is an international gathering of trainers, equine professionals, students, and horse enthusiasts who share a passion for refined horsemanship, equine health, groundwork, and the continuous development of the partnership between horse and human.

This event is not about placing one method above another. Instead, our goal is to create a welcoming space where knowledge is shared, experiences are exchanged, and we can learn from one another while celebrating the many paths to excellent horsemanship, all with the horse's well-being at the heart of everything we do.

Our vision is simple: to bring together trainers from different countries, disciplines, and backgrounds to share their knowledge, inspire one another, and continue learning together. Each participant offers a unique perspective, yet we are united by the same purpose, to create stronger, more harmonious partnerships between horses and the people who care for them.

Learn from Experienced Trainers

For this inaugural event, we are delighted to welcome, among others, an experienced Canadian wild horse trainer who trained my own American Mustangs, as well as an equine pathologist from the University of Calgary.

Together, we combine hands-on horsemanship with scientifically grounded knowledge and many years of practical experience, creating a learning environment that bridges real-world training with the latest insights in equine science.

Four Weeks of Learning Together

Week 1 – Building Trust

Together with my American Mustangs and other young, inexperienced horses, we begin where every good education starts, with trust.

We will focus on first contact, clear communication, building trust, and developing a solid foundation upon which all future training can be built. These principles apply not only to Mustangs, but to young and inexperienced horses of every breed.

Week 2 – Strengthening the Foundation

In the second week, we continue the education of young and inexperienced horses. The focus is on practical groundwork, clear communication, and calm, confident leadership.

Whether your passion is Western riding, classical dressage, Working Equitation, liberty training, or any other discipline, every horse benefits from a strong foundation.

Week 3 – Groundwork in Nature

Rancho Terra Bravo offers an exceptional natural training environment.

Rolling hills, impressive granite rock formations, varied terrain, and thoughtfully designed obstacles provide endless opportunities for practical, real-world groundwork.

Together, we will discover how purposeful groundwork not only prepares horses for riding but also equips them to confidently face the many challenges they may encounter throughout their lives.

Week 4 – Coaching

Coaching is woven throughout the entire month. Every interaction with a horse is an opportunity to reflect on and refine our communication, timing, body language, and leadership.

During the final week, however, our attention shifts even more toward the human side of the partnership. Often, the greatest challenge does not lie with the horse, but in understanding why our message is not being received in the way we intended.

Together, we will learn to communicate with greater clarity, consistency, and intention. We will develop our feel, improve our timing, strengthen our leadership, and learn to see ourselves through the eyes of the horse. This is not primarily about personal development, it is about building the skills that create clearer, more effective communication and lasting partnerships with our horses.

Because sometimes everything changes for the horse when we are willing to change ourselves.

Meet Our Mustangs

My four American Mustang geldings, ranging in age from three to twelve years, will be part of the workshop experience. Most are still in the early stages of their training, giving you the unique opportunity to observe different stages of development while getting to know the individual personalities of these remarkable horses.

If you've ever considered adopting a Mustang yourself, this is the perfect opportunity to discover whether a formerly wild horse could be the right partner for you.

Rancho Terra Bravo

Located just over an hour north of Porto Airport, Rancho Terra Bravo offers:

  • Large covered round pen
  • Natural hills, trails, and varied terrain
  • Beautiful surroundings for walks with the horses
  • A relaxed atmosphere focused on learning and connection

Lunch and dinner are included during workshop days.

Weekends – Experience the Beauty of Portugal

The learning doesn't end when the training sessions are over.

Our weekends are dedicated to exploring the breathtaking landscapes and rich culture of northern Portugal. Together, we can:

  • Visit Peneda-Gerês National Park in search of the free-roaming Garrano horses.
  • Relax on the beautiful beaches of the Atlantic coast.
  • Enjoy scenic hikes through some of Portugal's most stunning landscapes.
  • Discover the traditions of Portuguese leather craftsmanship.
  • Share delicious meals, meaningful conversations, and memorable evenings together at the ranch.

Because some of the most valuable friendships are made not in the arena, but in the moments we share beyond it.

How to Participate

Global Horse Month is designed to be flexible, allowing you to participate in the way that best suits your schedule and goals.

You can join us:

  • For the entire month
  • For a single training week
  • For just one day
  • As an active participant
  • Or simply as an observer

You are welcome to bring your own horse, work with one of my American Mustangs, or partner with a horse from a neighboring ranch.

Whether you choose to stay in a camper, a tent, or one of the charming accommodations nearby, you can create the experience that suits you best.

Whether you spend one day with us or the entire month, you will become part of the Global Horse community.

Everyone is warmly welcome.

A Global Community

Global Horse Month is much more than an event.

It is the beginning of an annual international gathering where trainers, equine professionals, and horse enthusiasts from around the world come together to share their knowledge, present their unique approaches, exchange ideas with openness and respect, and continue learning from one another, all for the benefit of the horse.

Because in the end, the horse doesn't care where we come from.

It only cares how we approach it and how we make it feel.

If this vision resonates with you, I warmly invite you to become part of the very first Global Horse Month at Rancho Terra Bravo.

Together, let's create a tradition that connects and inspires Horsemen and Horsewomen across generations, a community united by a shared passion and a commitment to lifelong learning.

For the horse.
For the human.
For the journey we share.
